Characterization of Impedance and Crosstalk Using TDR
High-Speed Digital Data Communication
The TDS8000 digital sampling oscilloscope stands out for its extensive range of integrated measurement and waveform-processing capabilities, making it the premier choice for ultra-high bandwidth applications. It offers superior measurement consistency, exceptional vertical resolution, and rapid waveform acquisition and display refresh rates. This makes the TDS8000 an indispensable tool for semiconductor testing, TDR analysis of circuit boards, IC packages, cables, and high-speed digital data communications.
Advanced Waveform Acquisition Technology
The 8000 Series features cutting-edge timebase technology, delivering equivalent time sweep speeds from 0.5 ps/div to 5 ms/div and record lengths ranging from 20 to 4000 points, with a sampling interval as fine as 10 femtoseconds (0.01 ps). Additionally, the timebases of the 8000 Series sampling oscilloscopes can be synchronized with a 10 MHz reference, enhancing long-term stability. This feature also facilitates the synchronization of multiple TDS8000 units with other testing equipment and the device under test.
The TDS8000 includes dual magnification windows, allowing for re-acquisition of main trace sections at higher resolutions to scrutinize finer details.
Among sampling oscilloscopes, the TDS8000 boasts the highest sample rate. Its multi-processor structure, equipped with dedicated Digital Signal Processors (DSP) per channel, ensures optimal waveform acquisition rates, independent of the number of channels being recorded or the extent of waveform processing.
Modular and Flexible Design
The TDS8000 supports a broad and expanding array of electrical and optical plug-in modules. This modular design allows you to tailor the instrument with specific capabilities for current and future needs.
Electrical plug-ins cover a range of modules with bandwidth capabilities up to 50 GHz, including specialized TDR modules for detailed impedance and crosstalk analysis. High bandwidth probes are also available, providing a comprehensive solution for signal acquisition.
Optical modules cater to a complete range of optical testing requirements for both telecommunications (155 Mb/s to 40 Gb/s) and data communications (Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet), along with general-purpose optical signal testing.
Unrivaled TDR Features
With the 80E04 TDR sampling module, the TDS8000 delivers unparalleled TDR functionality across up to eight channels simultaneously. Each channel features an independent polarity-selectable step-generator with an unmatched 35 ps reflected rise time. The TDS8000 stands alone in offering a true differential TDR system today. Automatic, transparent adjustments for step amplitude and baseline offset variations ensure precise and repeatable impedance measurements.
8000 Series Sampling Oscilloscope Platform
Built on Tektronix’s latest sampling oscilloscope platform, the TDS8000 combines familiar MS Windows-based PC technologies with state-of-the-art waveform acquisition capabilities.
This platform is equipped with a range of standard instrumentation and communication interfaces, including GPIB, Parallel Printer Port, RS-232-C, USB Serial Ports, and an Ethernet LAN connection. It also features several mass storage options such as a floppy disk, removable hard drive, and CD-ROM.
The TDS8000 features a large, full-color display that enhances waveform detail differentiation. Color-grading of waveform data introduces a third dimension—sample density—to your signal analysis.
With support for an open MS Windows environment, the TDS8000 allows for unprecedented data analysis directly on the instrument using commercially available software packages.
